She tilted her head slightly down and around, so she could peek at the man from the corner of her eye. He must know she saw him. He was over six feet tall, wearing a long black raincoat that blended with his black, smoothed-back hair and the shadow of a well-groomed, barely-there beard.

He struck a pose, leaning backward while resting the palms of his hands behind him on the front fender of a gleaming black Jaguar, silently observing her backside. While she spied on him, he casually crossed his right foot over his left ankle, seemingly unconcerned about any damage to the sharp crease in his charcoal gray trousers. He appeared ready to wait as long as it took for her to get around to him.

His visual effect was stunning. She felt self-conscious, small and crude in comparison to his prosperous style. She did a quick inventory of her own appearance in a ratty tee shirt and baggy bib overalls with her favorite hammer dangling from the carpenter’s
